Fluent in Turkish

I signed up for a "Turkish Word of the Day" sent directly to my yahoo account. Today was the first day, first word and the first step towards the magnanymous sounds of my Turkish pronunciation. Ready for my first word.... November:kasim. Yup, this one will be SUPER helpful in the up and coming days.

Yeah, you should have that one down. You've got a few months to make sure you know it by heart. :-P

Laura,
I thought I should recommend the book "Crescent and Star" by Stephan Kinzer before you leave for Turkey. It was recommended to me by a student at my college who studied in Ankara for a semester. It's a really interesting discussion of the current sociological and political situation in Turkey- dipping into history to really get a full scope of what's going on. It definately kept my interest (unlike most books on politics).

Here it is:

Best of luck!
